Job Description
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and conditioning of the golf course to ensure it meets the highest standards of playability, aesthetics, and environmental stewardship. This role requires strong leadership, agronomic expertise, and the ability to manage a team, equipment, and resources effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and supervise the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, roughs, and landscapes.
- Develop and implement agronomic programs, including fertilization, irrigation, pest and disease control.
- Manage, operate, and maintain the golf course irrigation system.
- Lead, train, and supervise groundskeeping and maintenance staff, ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Inspect the course regularly and make adjustments to maintain optimal playing conditions.
- Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget, including labor, equipment, and supplies.
- Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance of equipment and irrigation systems.
- Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, irrigation, and turf maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, sustainability standards, and water management policies.
- Liaise with golf professionals, club management, and committees to coordinate course maintenance with events and tournaments.
- Oversee capital improvement projects, renovations, and upgrades to the course and facilities.
Skills
- Proven experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- Degree/Diploma in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field.
- In-depth knowledge of turf management, irrigation, and pest control practices.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to develop and manage budgets and operational plans.
- Proficiency with irrigation control systems and maintenance equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Golf course industry certifications (e.g., GCSAA, BIGGA, or equivalent) are preferred.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in golf course management or a similar role.
